New President's Message May 2021 Update

The past few weeks have been an extremely busy time for the SW OK Chapter and this seemed like a good opportunity to provide an update on some important happenings.

As many of you may know, the Military Welcome Center (MWC) at the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport has been closed for much of the past year due to Covid.  Additionally, the ASYMCA has dissolved their part of the partnership in the MWC.  The Chapter’s Executive Board is considering options to reopen the MWC.  I am meeting with Auxiliary representatives of the MWC to work out a Memorandum of Agreement where we would sign the facility permit with the Airport Authority.  This would allow the MWC to reopen the lounge and continue to provide a quality facility for traveling military and their families. Some of the considerations in forging this agreement include funding, staffing, liability issues, management, legal arrangements with the airport and possible partnerships.  It is our desire to reopen by the end of May.  If you have any comments, concerns, questions or any other input on this issue, we welcome your feedback.  Please contact me or any member of the Executive Board.
