Thought for the Week...

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.  John F. Kennedy

Presidents Message

Dennis Clippinger - Serving Chapter President

Although the first month of 2109 has already flown by all too quickly, let me begin my first President’s Message by wishing each of you a happy, healthy and productive New Year.  I know that my responsibilities as President will keep me busy for the next two years and I am confident that together, it will be a rewarding time.

As I mentioned during our January luncheon, our immediate past president, Ed Peterson has set the bar pretty high.  His leadership over the past four years has been instrumental to the success of this Chapter.  So, going forward, what do we do to build on the success of the past?  There are four characteristics that are indicative of a successful Chapter:

Purpose:  A healthy Chapter has a well defined and clearly articulated purpose or mission.  Why are you an active member of this Chapter?  If you can clearly articulate your why, then you can easily convince a prospective member join you.

Legislative Advocacy:  A successful Chapter is engaged with Legislators at every level of government.  We need to effectively communicate with our legislators on those issues that are important to us.  This includes member phone calls, letters, office visits and inviting Legislators to our Chapter meetings.

Community Involvement:  Our local community needs to know who we are, what we do and that what we do is important to the community.

Membership Growth:  All Chapters need membership growth to stay successful.  Many organizations have seen declining membership in recent years and we have not been totally immune to that trend.  Look around, most of us are "Baby Boomers" or older.  The “doers” of our generation will not be around forever.  We must be actively recruiting the next generation of leaders to our ranks.  Membership Growth is one of my top priorities for this year.
