Thought for the Week...

I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.  Helen Keller

Cameron University has the only Senior ROTC program in our chapter area.  Our chapter annually awards a MOAA medal and certificate to an outstanding third year student.   In 2017, we began gving a monetary award to that student as well, due a generous donation by the Dollar - Janosko family.  Our 2020 recipient was Cadet Larry Bassett (right side image).

We also present senior cadets with a set of Second Lieutenants bars prior to their commissioning ceremony (left side image) .  We inform these new lieutenants about their eligibility to receive a no-fee, BASIC memberships in national MOAA to try and start them out with an early appreciation for MOAA membership.

For several years, we have been trying to award a scholarship (IAW our criteria framework) to a deserving sophomore (Military Science II student) who would receive the monetary award in the fall when they are normally placed under contract.  In 2020, for the first time, we were also able to select a cadet for this scholarship pending  final qualification for contracting.

Our Chapter also supports the Junior ROTC programs at Eisenhower, Lawton, and MacArthur High Schools by annually recognizing an outstanding third year cadet from each of these schools.  Those cadets are presented a medal and an award certificate during each school's annual Recognition Ceremony.  These cadets are then eligible to wear the medal during their senior year.
