National Cemetery Project 22 May 2024

A number of comments from visitors to the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma have mentioned that they would like to see more flowers to brighten up the landscaping at the cemetery.  In his monthly briefing to the Comanche County Veterans Council, Matthew Priest requested assistance from council members in addressing this issue.  The SWOK Chapter of MOAA has asked to be a part of this project.  Chapter volunteers are needed on 22 May at 0900 hours to help plant flowers around the main Visitors Center at the entrance to the cemetery. The cemetery staff will purchase the flowers and have them on hand on the morning of the 22nd.  We need 8 to 10 volunteers (or more) with gardening tools to do the planting.  The photo shows the area where we will be planting.

Weather permitting, this will be a fun project for Chapter members and should only take about 2 hours to complete. This will definitely enhance the landscaping just in time for Memorial Day.  If you would like to volunteer or need further information, the POC for this project is Dennis Clippinger (580) 585-0251.

Note:  If we have time after this project is complete, volunteers can stay to assist in placing flags by every headstone for Memorial Day.
